GENERAL- RESPECT
The golden rule applies: Treat others the way you want to be treated. That means respect must be given to every member. You may disagree with their opinions or get along but at least have the decency to be nice to them. Don't attack other members or exclude them, especially on the basis of race, gender, etc. Everyone is equal here and everyone is expected to respect and be respected.
- MATURITY
Please don't act like children, don't pick fights, don't antagonize other members. Act as if your grandmother is peering over your shoulder. Well, not really because your grandmother would probably question why you are pretending to be people on the internet but you get the idea.
- STAFF
Staff's word is almost law. If you believe there is room to question a moderator's judgment, do not confront them about. Please go through the admins and they will deal with any suspicions or inconsistencies.
- OOC
The first thing to remember that if someone's character doesn't like your character, that is not an attack on you. In character is supposed to be completely separate from out of character, you are not your character and shouldn't transfer those relationships into the c-box or in the chat board. We are all friends, even if our characters aren't. Also in OOC, try to limit swearing. Words such as damn and hell are acceptable as they are not seen as very offensive. More offensive swears should be used sparingly. Basically, if you wouldn't use it in front of your parents, don't use it here.
ACCOUNT
- MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
We require one account per character. Sometimes people prefer a single account but multiple accounts makes it easier to tell which characters are in a thread. Also the post number and date of creation for the account will be used to determine when a character receives the next tier for powers.
- DISPLAY NAME & GENDER
Another requirement is that the account's display name must be the character's first and last name. The middle name [if applicable] can be abbreviated or omitted. You may add symbol to the END of the character's name. Do not place these symbols at the beginning. The gender of the account must match the gender of the character, not your own personal gender.
- SIGNATURE & AVATARS
To keep users straight, we require every account to have your OOC name and all of your characters names in your signature. Any size is allowed in the signature as long as it doesn't stretch the page and it isn't obscenely long. As for avatars, we would prefer that your avatar is an image of your face claim but other images may be used. Avatars should be 100 x 100px.
CHARACTERS
- ORIGINALITY
We know this is a superhero roleplay but we do not want to see a character named Mark Bent with superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and stop a speeding bullet with his chest. Have some originality with your characters, do not just copy a hero from some comic you read. The fun in an original character roleplay is the ability to create your own character. Take that and run with it!
- PERFECTION
In other words, Mary-sues. If you don't know what that term means, it is a perfect character with no flaws, everyone loves them, and they can do no wrong. That is the last thing we want to see in a character. There is nothing fun about a character that is perfect from every angle. Give your character some flaws, that is what makes them human and exciting. How about some battle scars? A temper that could rival a volcano? Or maybe your character is meek and has trouble standing their ground? All of those add depth to your character and makes they more entertaining to post with.
- POWERS
Explained here!
POSTING
- BASICS
Staying in character is key, make sure you are posting with the right account, don't power play or god mod. Be polite and make sure you mark ooc comments when in character. Unless you have never roleplayed before, you understand these basic rules. These don't change here at Count the Shadows, so follow them just as you would on any other site or board.
- GRAMMAR & LENGTH
Here at CTS, we ask for at least 200 words per post for a normal thread. This would be about two paragraphs and enough for a partner to respond to. That means no one-liners. Though, this also doesn't mean shorter posts aren't allowed. All we ask is that every member of the thread agrees to do short-form posts which are usually just over 100 words. We also ask for proper grammar. There is absolutely no chat speak or abbreviations are not allowed. If you wouldn't see it in a book, we don't want to see it in your post. When you finish a post, at least use the spell check that Proboards provides.
- CODING
When you post, we ask that your posts are blockquoted, justified and sized properly. This is quite simple with a couple lines of code. [*blockquote] [*/blockquote], [*justify] [*/justify], [*size=1] [*/size], just remove the asterisks. Also dialogue should be bolded and you may use a color if you want. Character tables are also allowed.
- MULTIPLE THREADS
You are allowed to have each character in a maximum of three threads. That minimizes the chances that threads will contradict each other and lower the chance of confusion. Also, we do not allow a roleplayer to have two of their characters in one thread. This will just mess with the order of posters and kind of defeats the purpose of roleplaying.
